Why NYDesigns Hardware Accelerator?

The NYDesigns Hardware Accelerator provides early-stage hardware entrepreneurs with access to prototyping facilities, light industrial manufacturing space to build, assemble and distribute products, and an expert team of investors, mentors and manufacturers. Our ecosystem of hardware and design professionals understand the commitment it takes to launch a hardware product into the hands of customers. Participants receive access to a dedicated desk per person (2-3) during the duration of the three-month program and access to the NYDesigns FabLab. We are one of New York City’s largest coworking and makerspaces at 30,000 sq feet. NYDesigns’ 17 residents span diverse industries from healthcare, additive manufacturing, entertainment, advertising, consumer goods, and industrial nonprofits. Our residents have raised over $115 million in investor capital over the last 13 years. NYDesigns residents gain direct access to mentors and investors of the New York City hardware and tech community. The NYDesigns Hardware Accelerator recruits companies from around the world and have the opportunity to work in NYC for three months while scaling or launching their product into the marketplace.

What’s the Deal?

Located in Long Island City, a neighborhood in Queens, NY, the NYDesigns Hardware Accelerator provides participant startups with an in-depth three-month program with the goal of helping early-stage companies create viable prototypes for product-solution fit testing or launch market-ready products into the marketplace, and secure early customers. Keep your equity in place. Each accepted company is required to pay $2,500 per person for the duration of the three-month program. NYDesigns does not provide accepted companies with a monetary investment in exchange for equity. All accepted companies are required to work out of NYDesigns for the program’s duration in our Long Island City location. NYDesigns Hardware Accelerator receive the benefits listed below: Amazon Web Services Credits up to $3,000. Access to 100+ mentors and investors in the Hardware Ecosystem 24/7 access to affordable workspace for teams of 2-3 individuals Affordable access to prototyping facilities Monday – Friday (10AM – 7PM)

Eligibility

Type – Hardware and design startups that have been in business for less than five years and create “manufacturable” products.

Funding – Hardware and design startups with less than $1M of funding (equity-based, grants, loans, bootstrapped, etc) and legally incorporated in the United States of America.

Participation* – At least two co-founders must participate full-time in the program (4-6 hours per week) through December 16, 2019.

Location – International participants must be legally based in the United States through December 16, 2019.

 

*The NYDesigns Accelerator program is not open to current residents of NYDesigns.

A Day In The Life

A typical NYDesigns Hardware Accelerator week looks like this:

AMAs: Ask me Anything – Field stories from entrepreneurs that have built, sold or IPOed a hardware and design-focused business.

Workshop Series – Outside experts cover wide-ranging and diverse specific relevant topic areas. Sample workshops include: Design Strategies for Early Prototypes, Building Your Prototype from Scratch, From Small Production to Large Batch Production, Building an Efficient Supply Chain, How to Work with a Manufacturing Project Manager, etc.

Investor Office Hours – NYDesigns invites venture and angel investors interested in hardware products across multiple industries. This group of individuals can help startups prepare for investor meetings, too.

Prototyping Office Hours – Work with product design and manufacturing professionals on getting your prototype market-ready.

Strategist in Residence – Access to a monthly strategist to create ongoing strategies, tactics and other plans to meet end-goals.
