The class will feature:

  • Learning how to safely use various types of saws and power tool including table saw, miter saw, vertical band saw. power drill, electric and disk sander
  • Learning woodworking techniques sanding, gluing, fabrication, clamping
  • Sourcing and learning about the benefits of recycled material
  • Designing and building your own custom shelf/coat rack/towel rack/wine rack

3D Printing Basics – April 25, 2018

Ever Wanted to Learn to Use a 3D Printer?

Here’s your chance! The class will be taught on the Statasys UPrint 3D Printer. Learn the skills to inspire your next project.

In this class you will:

  • Learn about the applications of 3D printing and the variety of projects it can be used for
  • Learn the different kinds of 3D printing material
  • Learn about what kinds of programs can be used to create 3D models
  • Learn how to operate the 3D printing program and run the 3D printer
  • Learn the process of taking a digital 3D image and making it printable
  • Watch the 3D printer print a project
  • Leave with a knowledge of how to operate the 3D printer
  • Take home a 3D printed object

All classes take place at the NYDesigns FabLab, our 5,000 square foot, on-site fabrication lab that allows makers to prototype design concepts in a safe, secure facility. In addition to the laser cutter, the FabLab is equipped with an array of tools, both analog and digital, including traditional hand and power tools, 3D printers, a CNC Router, a vacuum former, and an FDM rapid prototyper.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

The class is open to all skill levels but participants must be over 18.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Parking is slim. We would not recommend driving. You can take the E/G/M/7 to Court Square or the E/F/M/R to Queens Plaza. It is about a 15 minute walk over to our location from either station.

What can I bring into the event?

You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own computer with some simple raster and vector files if you would like to try printing your own design. It will be up to the discretion of the instructor if there is time and resources to print your file.
